Warren James Mayo, 59, attacked someone in the late hours of March 5 into the early hours of March 6, according to the release.
Additional details about the incident were not released.
Mayo has an extensive record of crimes in Dauphin, Cumberland, Berks, Schuylkill, Lebanon, and York counties. His first conviction for drug possession resulted in a year of probation in 1989 in Schuylkill County. Since then, he has been in and out of court and prison on charges of theft, retail theft, theft by deception, harassment, conspiracy, fighting, disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, fleeing from police, strangulation, assault, aggravated assault, simple assault, driving without a license, driving under the influence, unlawful access to a device, false identification to police, driving at a safe speed, forgery, and unlawful restraint. He also had a "Criminal Attempt - Criminal Homicide" charge from 2021 dismissed earlier this year due to lack of a speedy trial, his lengthy court records show.
For this case, "Mayo is wanted for charges of aggravated assault, strangulation and terroristic threats," the police say. "Mayo may be operating a 2001 black Jeep bearing PA registration MCY4592. Mayo is known to carry a knife on his person and should be considered armed and dangerous."
A $4,000 reward is offered for tips leading to his capture. Anyone with information on Mayo's whereabouts is asked to contact the Dauphin County Crime Stoppers through the Crime Watch or by calling the police at 717-558-6900.
